Gregg and Gloria Varney
New England Organic Farmers

Greg Varney’s family has farmed organically for three generations. They finally got around to getting their farm officially certified in 1987—the first certified organic dairy in the state of Maine.

"We’ve always been organic because this was just the traditional way my grandfather taught us to farm. We never thought there was any other way. In fact, this land has never seen chemical fertilizers or pesticides. When you live on the banks of the Nezinscot River like we do, you want to keep it pure and clean for all the kids and fish to swim in."

Greg’s wife Gloria runs the family organic store, making and selling homemade bread, cheese, soap, and much more. She also grows a huge organic garden.
