Earth was formed 4.57 billion years ago

Earth is the third planet from the sun and the fifth largest of the nine bodies officially categorized as planets . It is also the only one known to currently support life.

As of February 2006, 6,500,000,000 humans inhabit this planet. In 2013, 7 billion are expected and in 2050, 9.1 billion! This is why it is crucial to leave a small “footprint.”

Earth is the largest terrestrial planet.(Terrestrial planets, are composed primarily of rock and metal and have relatively high densities, slow rotation, solid surfaces, no rings, and few satellites.)

It takes 23 hours, 56 minutes, and 4.0191 seconds for earth to rotate on its axis, which runs from the North to the South Pole, which is called a sidereal day.

Inclination of axis:23.45°

Earth travels at a velocity of about 107,000 km/h (about 67,000 mph) and  orbits the sun in 365.2564 solar days, which is 1 sidereal year.

Total surface area: 510,065,600 km2
Land surface area: 148,939,100 km2 (29.2%)
Water surface area: 361,126,400 km2 (70.8%)

Average surface temperature: 59°F (15°C)

Equatorial diameter: 12,756 km (7,926 miles)
